The setting
The Exuma Cays run 120 miles from north of Nassau down to Great Exuma — a string of low, sandy islands separating the deep, cobalt Exuma Sound from the shallow, glowing Exuma Bank. Most of the chain is uninhabited. The water between the cays is a few feet deep over white sand, which is what gives it the color pilots and sailors talk about.
Staniel Cay sits in the middle of it. It is the hub of the central Exumas: a village of about a hundred residents, a working yacht club and marina, a grocery, a clinic, a church, and a paved airstrip with daily flights. It is small enough that everything is a golf-cart ride away, and it is the jumping-off point for everything the Exumas are famous for.
Staniel Residences takes a palm-covered point on the Exuma Bank side of the cay. The village and the yacht club are a short walk behind you; in front, there is nothing but shallow water, sandbars, and the sunset.
Out the front door
Most visitors spend a full day and a long charter to see these. From your own dock at Staniel Residences, they are an afternoon.
The famous swimming pigs of the Exumas live on the beach at Big Major Cay, the next island north. They swim out to meet the boats.
A hollow limestone cay with a hidden cave you snorkel into at slack tide — sunlight pours through the roof onto schools of fish. Two James Bond films were shot here.
Endangered Exuma rock iguanas found nowhere else on earth, sunning on a white beach under cliffs of pale limestone.
At low water, bars of sugar-white sand rise out of the bank around Staniel — mile-long beaches that exist for a few hours a day.
Swim with the gentle nurse sharks at the Compass Cay marina, and watch turtles feed in the shallows at Little Farmer's Cay.
The Staniel Cay Yacht Club has been the social heart of the central Exumas since 1956 — a dock bar where sailors, pilots, and locals meet at sunset.
The residences
Each residence is a stand-alone bungalow under a thatched roof, set in its own garden with a private pool, a sun deck, and a boardwalk to its own dock on the Exuma Bank. A two-story service building at the entrance holds reception, laundry, staff quarters, and the boat and dive storage.
How a condo hotel works
A condo hotel is a simple idea: you buy a residence outright, and the property is operated as a boutique hotel. Your bungalow is yours to enjoy, and while you are away it is rented to guests and looked after by the on-site team.
Reserve your own bungalow for the weeks you want each year. It is cleaned, stocked, and ready — fly in, walk from the airstrip, and your boat is at the dock.
The hotel markets and rents your bungalow to visiting guests. Nightly rates in the central Exumas are among the highest in the Bahamas, and demand runs year-round.
Reception, housekeeping, maintenance, power, water, and dock management are handled on site. You receive your share of rental income and never manage a thing.
